Pomegranate, Raspberry, and More: A Doctor’s 7 Liver-Saving Picks

Date:

A Florida-based gastroenterologist has identified seven fruits and vegetables that can be “liver-saving” additions to your diet. These foods are packed with compounds that support metabolism, fight inflammation, and aid detoxification.
Pomegranates are a key recommendation. The expert highlights that they are rich in polyphenols like ellagitannins and punicalagins. Research suggests these compounds are effective at helping to calm inflammatory signals that can negatively affect the liver.
Raspberries are another powerful pick. They are loaded with fiber and anthocyanins, which are compounds known for their strong metabolic benefits. The doctor notes that together, they help regulate blood sugar levels and improve the body’s ability to process fats after a meal.
The list also includes other berries and fruits. Cranberries are praised for their prebiotic polyphenols that support the gut-liver axis. Apples, especially when paired with cinnamon, provide soluble fiber and compounds that support insulin sensitivity and healthy lipid levels.
Watermelon with lime and beetroot are recommended for their blood-flow-boosting properties, thanks to citrulline and nitrates. Beetroot also contains betaine to help the liver process fat. Finally, strawberries with 70% dark chocolate are suggested for their blood-vessel-supporting flavanols.
