Boosting Hungarian Viticulture: New Support for Grape Growers

Date:

The Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture is expanding its support for the country’s viticulture and winemaking sectors. Previously, only winemakers could receive certain subsidies, but now grape growers are also eligible for funding. This initiative aims to help the entire industry thrive, from the vineyard to the bottle.
Imre Hubai, the State Secretary for Agriculture, announced that the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan will allocate nearly €28 million this year and a total of nearly €112 million between 2024 and 2027 to the sector. A new program will also launch to support innovation, helping winemakers adopt new technologies and processes. This support will allow them to expand into new markets and consumer bases by developing non-alcoholic and low-alcohol wine products.
The government is also providing continued assistance for modernizing vineyards and promoting production sites. To make the process easier for producers, application periods for subsidies are staggered. For example, subsidies for vineyard restructuring and conversion are open until August 15, while investment subsidies can be applied for between November 15 and December 15. The goal is to restore Hungary’s historic wine regions to their former glory, producing high-quality wines that support farmers and bring pride to the nation.
