Lidl Unveils €162 Million Logistics Hub in Kiskunfélegyháza, Hungary

Date:

Lidl Hungary has launched its largest logistics center in the country with the opening of a new facility in Kiskunfélegyháza. This significant development comes after an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to about €162 million. The new warehouse will serve as a supply hub for approximately 70 Lidl stores across Hungary, underscoring the retailer’s commitment to enhancing its distribution network.

The expansive logistics center spans over 83,000 square meters and has generated more than 400 jobs, with plans in place to recruit an additional 50 employees shortly. This facility boasts 194 loading docks and includes a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, ensuring efficient handling and storage of perishable goods. Moreover, the center incorporates sustainable technologies, such as a 9,000-square-meter solar installation on the rooftop and a system that recycles waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating.

Surrounding the logistics center, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area has been established, reflecting Lidl’s dedication to environmental responsibility. The new center is poised to significantly bolster Lidl’s supply capabilities in Hungary, with an estimated 4,500 pallets of goods expected to be dispatched daily from the facility. This development aligns with Lidl’s strategy to strengthen its presence and operational efficiency within the region.

Currently operating 220 stores nationwide, Lidl Hungary sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. The addition of this state-of-the-art logistics center is anticipated to support the company’s ongoing expansion and solidify its domestic market operations. By enhancing its logistics infrastructure, Lidl aims to improve supply chain management and ensure consistent product availability across its retail outlets.
