Greek Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci met in Athens to discuss enhancing security cooperation between Greece and Türkiye. The meeting, held at Greece’s Ministry of Citizen Protection, focused on tackling cross-border crime and was a continuation of discussions from the Greece–Türkiye Supreme Cooperation Council meeting in Ankara in February.
The ministers concentrated on strategies to combat organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. They also addressed the issue of criminal networks that exploit undocumented migrants and are involved in money laundering activities linked to illegal operations. Chrysochoidis highlighted the need for improved information sharing and operational coordination between Greek and Turkish security agencies.
Concerns about Turkish nationals allegedly connected to criminal groups operating in Greece were also raised by Chrysochoidis during the discussions. In response, Ciftci expressed support for expanding joint efforts to strengthen security and disrupt criminal networks, with a particular focus on those involved in human trafficking.
This meeting illustrates the ongoing efforts by Greece and Türkiye to enhance cooperation on shared security challenges, despite the longstanding differences that exist between the two nations. Both countries appear committed to working together to address these issues, reflecting a mutual interest in regional stability and safety.
