Greek PM, UAE President Address Regional Security in Light of Iran Conflict

Date:

In a recent phone conversation, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis focused on the repercussions of the current Iran conflict on regional security and the stability of international maritime routes. Central to their discussion was the impact of escalating tensions on shipping lanes, particularly through the critical Strait of Hormuz, and potential solutions to these growing regional challenges.

The leaders took the opportunity to exchange views on how to address these issues effectively, highlighting the need for continued dialogue and cooperation. They expressed mutual concerns over the disruptions affecting global trade and security, underscoring the strategic implications of the situation.

In addition to discussing regional security, Sheikh Mohamed and Prime Minister Mitsotakis emphasized their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations through the UAE-Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This partnership aims to bolster cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy, reflecting the countries’ shared priorities and interests.

The conversation between the two leaders comes after Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ visit to Abu Dhabi in May, where significant agreements were made to expand collaboration in technology and AI. This visit also marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Greece, highlighting the longstanding and evolving partnership between the two nations.
