Orbán Promises Defiance Against Potential Removal of Hungary’s President

Date:

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has made a firm declaration that Hungary has the right to resist any forceful removal of its president from office. This statement came in the wake of a parliamentary vote on the 17th Amendment to the Fundamental Law. Orbán expressed his party’s refusal to acknowledge the legitimacy of a president installed through what he termed as unlawful means.

In a social media post, Orbán emphasized that any actions taken by such a president would be devoid of legitimacy. He assured that his party would actively oppose any unconstitutional efforts to oust the head of state. His comments underscore heightened political tensions in Hungary, especially following the recent parliamentary decision.

Orbán further cautioned that targeting the presidency might establish a dangerous precedent. He warned that similar tactics could be employed against other prominent public figures, critics, or even business owners in the future. This statement highlights his concern over the potential misuse of power against political and civil stakeholders in Hungary.

The remarks by the Hungarian Prime Minister arrive at a critical juncture, as the constitutional amendment has already stirred significant political controversy. Orbán’s firm stance against what he perceives as unconstitutional actions reflects his broader apprehensions about political stability and governance in Hungary.
