Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged Germany to enhance bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the importance of multilateralism and free trade. During a phone call on Monday with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Wang highlighted the benefits of closer economic and strategic ties, advocating for increased communication and mutual trust between the two nations amidst global economic challenges.
Wang stressed the significance of Germany adhering to the one-China principle, particularly in maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait. He also suggested that economic and trade differences between China and the European Union should be addressed through dialogue rather than confrontation.
German Foreign Minister Wadephul acknowledged the positive momentum in Germany-China relations, expressing support for enhanced high-level exchanges and deeper cooperation in trade and economic affairs. He reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to the one-China policy, aligning with Wang’s call for continued adherence.
The ministers also touched upon international issues, including the situations in Iran and Ukraine. Wang conveyed China’s dedication to peace efforts and emphasized the importance of strengthening communication with Germany and the European Union on these matters.
