Kazakhstan and Germany have reached an agreement to enhance their economic relationship, focusing on investment, infrastructure, industry, and transport. This development emerged following discussions between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on September 29. President Tokayev emphasized the significance of Germany as Kazakhstan’s key strategic partner in Europe, noting the advancements made in their bilateral relations over the past three decades.
The visit centered on economic cooperation, with President Tokayev proposing the creation of a Kazakhstan-Germany Investment and Financial Platform. This initiative aims to support joint projects and facilitate investments between the two nations. During his visit, Tokayev also engaged with German business leaders to explore potential collaborations in various sectors, including transport and logistics, industrial localization, engineering, metallurgy, and waste processing.
A significant aspect of the discussions involved the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the modernization of railway infrastructure. These projects are part of a broader agenda to expand manufacturing capabilities in Kazakhstan and enhance connectivity between the two countries.
The talks also opened up avenues for German companies to participate in industrial and infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan. This participation could provide these companies with greater access to the broader Central Asian market, presenting new opportunities for growth and collaboration.
Overall, the strengthened economic ties between Kazakhstan and Germany are expected to bolster mutual investment and foster strategic partnerships across various sectors, reflecting a commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.
